Tobacco seeds are so very tiny that one flower has about 3000 seeds. While their weight differs with each variety of tobacco, there can be up to a half a million seeds per ounce. There are over 40 varieties of tobacco seeds from around the world.
In order for tobacco to grow, the seeds must be set in seedbeds first. Most seeds will germinate in 7 to 10 days. After 4 to six weeks, the stronger plants are transplanted into the fields.
It is possible that tobacco may have some medicinal benefits. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, those that suffer from mental disorders such as ADHD/ADD, schizophrenia and other disorders may experience positive effects from smoking. Apparently, doses of nicotine have a short term normalization effect on the EEG (electrical activity in the brain).
It is also thought that those that suffer from Alzheimer’s and Dementia can also benefit from doses of nicotine. According to studies, patients cognitive abilities slightly improved.
Tobacco is a great way to get rid of aphids in your garden. By simply soaking a small amount of tobacco in a quart of water overnight, the nicotine released in the water will create an all purpose insect repellent.
Last, but not least is the most fun fact of all. Some of these wonderful little tobacco seeds will be grown into your favorite cigars from Bobalu Cigar Co.!
